The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

A bit more info.
The deal is an extension on the already agreed deal with the EBU for all but the Big 5. Now also showing the tournament will be ARD/ZDF (Germany), BBC/ITV (UK), France Télévisions, RAI (Italy) and RTVE (Spain), and also UA : PBC in Ukraine.

There's also a commitment to increase coverage of women's football across the union, “As part of this agreement, the EBU has committed to working towards broadcasting at least one hour of weekly content dedicated to women’s football on its own digital platform and broadcaster network" (Gianni Infantino).

Will be interesting to see how they split the England games.

The timing of the matches isn't very viewer friendly. England group games perhaps in the better timeslots of 10:30am, 9:30am & 12.

Any reason why it took so long to be announced or get over the line when it was reported by the Telegraph months ago that BBC/ITV had a deal in place

ITV will prioritise picking the later kick offs I imagine. Seems like FIFA ended up doing a deal with the EBU rather than individual broadcasters.

Looks like there is no broadcaster of the Mens U21 Euros which start next week in place either - Sky have traditionally covered it.

European Games coverage still very sketchy - is a broadcast section here though which gives details on the schedule, graphics and other technical plans.

Most of this is collated in this one PDF which seems to suggest only the ceremonies, athletics, diving and artistic swimming will have a world feed with English commentary - and that not all events are intended for broadcast, with a "lower quality" streaming feed for other events. Seems a bit of a step down from the last couple of games and of the European Sport Championships.

Also struggling to find any news about Team GB participants which would give an indication of how worthy of broadcast some events, which may be Olympic qualifiers, would be.

And the final of the UEFA version on Sunday, will also be shown on Channel 4. James Richardson is set to present, with Jules Breach continuing to host the England games.

I’m not sure there that similar to the graphics apart from the use of white and blue.

Glad James Richardson’s back on Channel 4, I’m surprised they’ve never used him on the England vs Italy games they’ve already shown as the secondary presenter. I guess it’ll just be a studio based affair though.

S4C wll continue to show Wales men's football internationals until 2028. Their current deal (where they are host broadcaster for home games) expired in a year's time, after which Wales games were due to be exclusively on Viaplay (presuming the new deal is with Viaplay rather than UEFA)

EDIT: Press release confirms it is a deal with Viaplay for exclusive Welsh language rights.

I was thinking that both had white boxes for the team codes, blue boxes for the score and clock, and the team's colour shown via a thin horizontal line along the bottom of the codes. Granted the shapes and dimensions are not at all similar.

Not a huge surprise with S4C continuing vegetables Welsh rights and bring host broadcaster - Viaplay so far have just used World Feed commentary on Wales games.

Still no word I guess on England 2024-28?

The European Games will use AI commentary, based on the voice of Hannah England. Think the headline may be misleading though as they say it'll convert a 24 hour live blog into audio form, so may not be commentary in the traditional sense.
