It’s a bit of an about face from earlier in the week when they had said they weren’t going to show it and were directing viewers to one of the three repeats they’re showing Sunday. Madness showing live coverage of a tournament all year and then skipping the final. The original schedule had live UEFA European Qualifiers on both channels one of which was also being shown FTA on VMTV Two. (Not sure which match has been dropped though).
There’s also free-to-stream coverage on France’s TV5MONDE.

What are Channel 4 viewers in the Republic of Ireland seeing in lieu of the Malta V England football coverage this evening?
Just a legal disclaimer holding caption for 3 hours (with/without Irish commercial breaks at regular intervals), or separate replacement programmes instead?

If only they had some kind of infinite loop for such occasions.

Ha!
I'm sure that many non-football fans may well find a 3-hour loop of an ident preferable to a football match.

For I think the first time, Viaplay used their own commentary for a Wales football international in the form of John Roder & Dean Saunders (Welshman Tony Jones solo on the world feed). As is customary though, there was no studio presentation. Northern Ireland's match had studio presentation from Dublin with a reporter on-site but no idea if commentary was. The Republic of Ireland's match also had Viaplay exclusive commentary and no studio presentation. Commentary for Norway v. Scotland tomorrow will be on-site.

Also interesting to see that the Viaplay UK website carried Polish commentary of Poland v. Germany tonight. I know this is something Eurosport on Discovery+ do for many available languages. It's a nice feature for what would be a significant diaspora in this case, and I doubt it would be much extra cost with the commentary already being produced.

OK, so this is what viewers in Ireland got instead of the England match, rather than replace it with reruns.
