Unfortunately it’s really the continuation of a trend, perhaps really the end of it, whereby RTE have been phasing out the older style of punditry popularised by Giles, Dunphy, and Brady, with similar panels coming to the fore in rugby (Hook, Pope, and O’Shea) and GAA football (Brolly and Spillane). Brady was really the last one left standing from that particular group of pundits. I should stress that there’s no suggestion other than Brady decided to retire of his own accord, but really it appears RTE have decided that it’s particular style of lively punditry (never favoured in the U.K. really) has now had its day, and that future panels will probably have a more technical but far less entertaining style of analysis.
