Possibly just a matter of the RFL talking up the rights price, as was suggested at the time it was suggested DAZN was bidding? It seems like it would be a huge step for the RFL to part ways with Sky after 30-odd years of them as their primary broadcast partner, and that it would just take the right bid from Sky to renew the rights. Then again the complacency may be real, and Sky seem in a real period of retrenchment. They’re virtually out of rugby union now Sanzaar aside, and the football division seems to be suffering a huge talent exodus.
Still, Super League’s broadcast slots really don’t suit TNT. After all, “Thursday Nights…are Europa Nights” and Friday nights would see a League v Union clash if they were showing PRL and SL games right opposite each other, although I don’t think the audience for each really overlaps that much, and the different seasons probably help minimise those clashes anyway.
