I don't think it's another 3DTV - UHD is fairly standard on streaming platforms. I think it's just UEFA being tight. Euro 2020 was available in UHD on iPlayer so this seems like such a regressive move.
As for the Paris Olympics, if it's anything like Tokyo, virtually all the production was in UHD I think, but how widely that's distributed is another issue. The BBC has never shown the Olympics in UHD, but I think in Tokyo that was partly down to the logistics of it being a remote production during Covid. Unless only Discovery has UHD rights, is that possible?
