European football rights market looking a little shaky at the moment. A new five year deal for domestic Serie A rights has been agreed, with a similar match split between DAZN and Sky (all ten games per week on DAZN, three also shown on Sky). Crucially though, it is around €28 million a year less.

In France, the initial auction for the domestic rights for Ligue 1 was withdrawn by LFP after no bids reached the financial level expected. The previous deal with Mediapro collapsed with a lower cost deal with Amazon and Canal+ coballed together. It was reported a few weeks ago that Canal+ were not intending to bid.

On one hand, it's not great news for the competitivness of the football landscape that both these key countries are lagging behind the behemoth of the Premier League's broadcast revenue. On the other hand, there might be a little panic from the Premier League with their new rights auction getting underway.
