The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

The signs were there, with less content specific to that channel since the rebrand from FreeSports and the recent removal from Samsung TV Plus. Viaplay often needs more than two channels for its content, so pressure on Premier Sports' now, incoming streaming option to have additional streams etc. that Viaplay do offer I believe.

I've heard that proper all-courts coverage of the ATP and WTA is on its way - it just wasn't quite ready for the start of the season.

Mark Robson calling Connacht v Bristol for TNT, first time I’ve heard him do European rugby in a good few years.

My suspicion is that they’ll need an additional channel in ROI from August for Champions League coverage - wouldn’t be surprised if they launch a dedicated Premier Ireland channel. (That’s working on the assumption the UK and Irish operations are reintegrated once the sale goes through).

I've heard the same but that they can't put a launch date on it. It's supposedly the same tech they need for the EFL and rugby (which makes me think it won't be available on Now TV).

The dedicated channel is coming in time for Indian Wells in March but wasn't sure if that was a rebrand of Arena again or a new channel.

BBC Wales making a meal out of their two live FA Cup games next weekend.

There's a preview show ahead of Newport v Man Utd going out on Saturday at 3.45pm on BBC1 (with Polly James) while Giantkillers: The Team That Wouldn’t Die (2019) gets a BBC2 repeat at 5.30pm.

Then, Wrexham gets a BBC2 double-bill on Sunday with a repeat of Hollywood or Bust at 7pm, followed by yet another retrospective of their 1992 win over Arsenal at 7.30pm (Mickey Thomas will be raking in the repeat fees this season...!)

Adding to that, Swansea v Bournemouth will be on Radio Wales in the South West with both TV games getting nationwide commentary on Radio Wales (Newport's game is also on Radio Cymru 2)

Staying in Wrexham, the club have suggested making all of the games FTA in the States - even though the fate of the next international EFL rights are out of their hands.

Radio 5 Sports Extra currently broadcasting a breakdown loop. AO commentary feed was cutting in and out intermittently then lost completely around 9.45am.

Problems continuing into the Womens QF match, brief snippets of commentary (15-30s) before abrupt crashes to the 5 Sports Extra off air loop.

Commentator acknowledging the issues and doing an admirable, professional job in the circumstances but the output is sadly unlistenable.
