Personally I think this is a mistake. When Dame Katherine Granger was the BBC's studio pundit at Tokyo 2020 whilst being the president of UK Sport, her analysis of the subpar performance of the British rowing squad had to be very tame was obviously compromised; I fear any critical coverage would be as substandard next week.
UK Athletics have already come under fire for turning down invitations for some athletes who have qualified via the world rankings rather than the more traditional qualifying time method. I fear the BBC analysis of this will be issued with a governing body mouthpiece as part of their team. With it being a home world championships, I hope Michael Johnson will travel over, as his criticism of the sport is often honest and unfiltered, something that should be needed next week.

Dame Denise Lewis has now temporarily stepped back from her role as the President of UK Athletics due to the potential conflict of interest of her working as a BBC pundit.

The News at Ten was the News at 10:50 in the end. There was five minutes between the last penalty and the appearance of Mishal Hussain, a sensible amount so coverage wasn't rushed off air, but the news did air before 11. No interviews or anything in that brief post-match segment.
For tomorrow, the BBC are quite excited that Wayne Rooney will be their guest pundit. Can't remember many other one-off pundits getting a press release before.

Thanks. Old but not ancient then. Odd they were designed like that then. In the clip below, you can compare with the BBC's graphics, which usually clashes with the BBC DOG in the top left corner; RTÉ's is miles away from there.
