A rare thing is that I can report positive swimming broadcasting news! The British Championships next week will be broadcast online by the BBC and Channel 4. The evening sessions will be live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, with the national diving championships in May also to be broadcast on the BBC. With the swimming championships being an integrated championship with para-swimming, the morning and evening sessions will be live on the Channel 4 streaming platform and the Channel 4 Sport YouTube channel. There will also be coverage on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.
After the near blackout of the World Championships a few weeks back, this is a positive development. The last national swimming championships I can recall being shown on the BBC was the 2012 event, which even had a highlights show with Hazel Irvine on BBC One on the Saturday, and also doubled as the Olympic test event. Last year's event was on the British Swimming YouTube channel.
PS This article does name Phillip Bernie as the Interim Director of BBC Sport. Maybe the Telegraph was wrong and Babara Slater has left, or she is on gardening leave or similar and leaves at the end of the financial year.
