EFL to suspend 3pm Saturday Blackout during the World Cup. Some 3pm fixtures now to feature on Sky Sports. Unclear as to whether these will be within current contract or extras.

If we're being picky, it's the FA who've notified UEFA that the 3pm blackout window will not apply. Curiously they've chosen to not include 31st December in the blackout window - it returns on January 14th (after the FA Cup3rd Round).

RTÉ's live coverage of Norway vs Republic of Ireland at The Aviva Stadium in Dublin does not include official titles from UEFA. However the graphics supplied for the match are from UEFA.

Dave Kelly is on duty tonight as a pitch side reporter for the match at the Aviva.

Tony O'Donoghue is on broadcasting duty in Qatar for the Fifa World Cup. He just did a pre-recorded analysis of the tournament on RTÉ2 to Peter Collins and the guys in The Aviva Stadium TV studios a short time ago.

Yeah that’s an odd one, it’s ages since I’ve seen RTE use their own titles for any men’s senior international football, and Sky are using the official titles for their coverage of the same game. Pretty sure RTE have used the official titles in the past. I’ve commented before about the fact that they’re one of the few examples of an opening title sequence that doesn’t contain an actual programme title! And of course Uefa’s favourite go-to theme music, the Euro 2008 theme.

Edit: about two minutes after I post this, they use the sting from the official titles into second half coverage! Wierd….

Edit 2: And the official sting was used at every break for the rest of the show and the titles at the outro. It’s almost as if they suddenly remembered they should have been using them during half time.

One of the BBC 2nd Round FA Cup matches is during the blackout period but as you say the window isn't applying during the World Cup
Forest Green Rovers v Alvechurch
Kick Off: 3pm
Saturday 26 November 2022
Live on BBC One

Four live matches this weekend, Saturday's two on BBC One, and Sunday's on ITV.
They are hoping to show a 2nd round replay on BBC Three on Thursday 8 December.

Not announced yet but Premier Sports / Viaplay’s advanced schedules yet again reveal a rights pick up before it’s announced. This one’s a bit left field, it’s the European Challenge Cup, the rugby union tournament for teams left out of the Heineken Cup. These rights have been with BT since 2014 but they’ve not treated it very well with little coverage in the group stages. Looks like Premier/Viaplay will be giving it more comprehensive coverage.

Good spot - I'd noticed the Heineken Cup matches popping up in BT's schedule, but hadn't noticed the absence of Challenge Cup. The EPCR website doesn't yet list any UK-wide broadcaster for any of the Challenge Cup games, just S4C for the Welsh ones.

Viaplay have a nice new virtual set for their URC coverage today - they (as Premier Sports) previously used a real set in the old eir Sport studio in Dublin, barely changed from the eir days and with parts of eir’s telephone cord logo still visible. Not sure if this studio is still in Dublin (is it the same studio with a new set) or if they’ve got studio space in the U.K. now.

Titles are still the same with the Premier Sports logo just replaced with the Viaplay one.
