French TV - News Discussion

BFMTV and LCI reverted to live programming earlier than usual to cover the US Presidential debate from Atlanta.

BFMTV was on-air at 0230 CET with presenter led analysis, while LCI went on-air at 0300 CET taking the CNN clean feed for the debate with a French translator off-screen.

Franceinfo stayed with the France 24 simulcast which didn't take the debate, instead using clips during the usual news bulletins, while CNEWS stayed with their pre-recorded loop of the midnight news bulletin.

This afternoon the Arcom approved the takeover of Altice Média by shipping behemoth CMA CGM. Additionally, Arcom has approved a request to cancel the TNT licenses of BFM Lyon Métropole (former TLM) and BFM Alsace (former Alsace 20) in relation to the acquisition, with the channels continuing to be broadcast on BFM TV's website, integrated IPTV networks and through RMC BFM Play. These licenses will be tendered out by Arcom from today.

In preparation for the acquisition and merger, CMA CGM's media division, Whynot Media, has been renamed CMA Média. The name had to be changed to avoid confusion with auteur film distributor Why Not Productions:

France 2 instead simulcast the debate, with Anne Sophie Lapix fronting the special coverage I believe.

LCI indeed didn't have any pre-debate coverage and analysis unlike BFMTV with Thomas Joubert but they did have post-debate analysis from 4:30am ish onwards bridging into the usual breakfast show.

BFMTV is doing the same as their European Election coverage: Apolline de Malherbe and Maxime Switek from 6pm till 10pm with Benjamin Duhamel taking over then.

LCI has Thomas Misrachi and Marie-Aline Meliyi starting off coverage from 4:45pm with Amelie Carrouer and Jean-Baptiste Boursier taking over at some point for the results at 8pm followed by Darius Rochebin (same as 3 weeks ago!).

TF1's special coverage starts at 7:30pm with Gilles Bouleau and Anne-Claire Coudray as always.

Meanwhile, France 24's coverage is being done in partnership with LCP in what seems to be the latter's studio.

TF1 have scheduled a film at 2130 CET. I'm not too sure if it'll go out or not considering the 1st round results of the legislature election.

Franceinfo split their election coverage using Alexandra Uzan until 2210, followed by a 20 minute simulcast of the radio station of the same name. Patricia Loison presented from 2230-0000. The switch to France 24 was as normal at 0000 CET.

France 3 Sat, the sustaining service took Paris IDF regional coverage.

TF1's election over-ran by 10 minutes, then 7 minutes of commercials before the Sunday film started.
