They presumably hoped by booking him they’d get people talking about the new show, but looking at twitter not many are actually talking about ‘the show’ and certainly not in a positive ‘I must watch next week’ kind of way

I think the new show will be grower for me.
Was a little surprised they've done away with the news summary and weather. As posted a few days ago, I was so sure they'd stick with it and thus update the look backdrop. Will be interesting to see what Newswatch come up with next week.
A damn shame the Newspaper review has gone, it could have easily involved the panel if they are booking a panel for the whole show every week.
Really disappointed with the music (sorry Mr, Lowe). Not a fan of Laura K walking off screen, 2-3 times during the titles. It looks forced and she looked very uncomfortable when they shot it.
Enjoyed seeing her style of interviewing on a format like this. She's incredibly skilled any trying to get what she wants from an interviewee. I had 2 Breaking News alerts as an outcome from the show. Will be interesting to see if this trend continues. The Truss alert was a scoop for sure, the Sunak alert was probably done for balance.

Surprised people are disappointed at the lack of a paper review. That’s one thing we’re definitely not short of these days.

Let’s be honest…every iteration of this programme has been broadly the same- all the way back to David Frost on TV-am. Paper reviews, other items and a big set-piece interview

Oh come on, it's always important to have the paper review in a programme like this.

I quite enjoyed it - looked and felt fresh. Perhaps a bit more time on the newspaper front pages wouldn't go amiss, but liked the way stories were sort of weaved through, rather than the chunk of the old paper review.
Music isn't quite as strong as either Marr or Frost imo, but I LOVE the nod back to the original BBC Breakfast with Frost with Laura walking about, just as Frost did on those titles...

Hope someone can do a mash-up of the LK titles with the BWF music

And also to be honest, it’s debatable if the format did need to be changed, at the end of the day you either watch this time slot or you don’t. The only thing which ever boosted the ratings was how big the ‘big interview’ was and how turbulent the past week in politics had been

Paper reviews are so ubiquitous from the moment the first editions emerge in the evening, I don’t think the show needs one.
Interesting to see Rob Burley criticise the decision to put Joe Lycett on. Although Rob was often incorrectly assumed to be responsible for Question Time, there have been highly questionable bookings on Politics Live etc over the years.
