The new look debuted Monday. All newscasts retained their own branding and intro (alongside adopting the new common graphics). Worth noting too that the NHK News curtain raiser used since last season (used before each show intro and as opener for short news bulletins) has been kept. Additionally, their two main newscasts, NHK News 7 and News Watch 9, got new opening titles and theme music; additionally, News 7 got a new virtual studio.

As part of the new season, news anchors Risa Hayashida and Mayuko Wakuda switched shows: Hayashida is now co-anchor of NW9, joining existing anchors Masayoshi Tanaka and Minoru Aoi, whilst Wakuda now anchors News 7 with Masatomo Takai.

News Watch 9 also aired a behind the scenes look at the show's new theme, Talk to You Tomorrow, by new age musician Yukiyo Nakamura:

Back in April Fools, ZDF in Germany retrofitted their 11am news to B&W, celebrating the station's 60th year on the air:

Over in Hong Kong, an ATV News at 8 opening that's put some effort in visual design, 1983:

Sadly the middle of the sequence was deteriorated, but I'd imagine something like this:

That ZDF thing they did is so awesome! I really wish that the BBC (or other broadcasters in general) do something like that from time to time

I thought it was in poor taste, especially for a news programme to do this and at the beginning of a bulletin about the Tornado outbreak in Arkansas. Maybe fine during a light-hearted segment at the end.

This is a good point, but the news is not something that people can control though......

As far as I know, it wasn't an actual bulletin as such. I don't know if it was scheduled, or if they just broke into the regular schedule for it. It certainly didn't interrupt any flagship bulletins, put it that way. No harm, no foul, I say - it's not every day your channel turns 60, after all!

Some stories behind this:
ZIP!, NTV’s morning newscast had extended one hour to 9am. Before that announcement, the morning wide show aired from 8am, Sukkiri, and late morning show Baguette was announced to end in April. The replacement of both Sukkiri and Baguette, now airing from 9am, is now DayDay, with Shinichi Takeda, Ryota Yamasato and Miyu Kurada as hosts. Shinichi Takeda was known as former NHK anchor and this is his first show in commercial network.
