International News Presentation: Past and Present

(10-04-2023, 03:19 PM)W. Knight Wrote:  Over in Australia, SBS World News may have something new in the open tomorrow, as teased by presenter Richelle Harrison Plesse's Instagram Story.
And the open is updated, focusing on the headline slides instead of the 'walk' in the studio. Judging by the teases from related personnel, seems like there'll be more small changes in the coming bulletins:

Over in Chile, Canal 13 relaunched their news channel, T13 En Vivo, on DTV space previously occupied by Canal 13.2 and promising a stronger programme lineup besides T13 repeats.

The on-screen pres is basically the same used in main newscasts since last year, with 'en vivo' added in the T13 box:

Suprised this hasn't yet been posted - ARD's news channel, Tagesschau24, has had a small refresh. Rather than sharing with the main editions on Das Erste, it now has its own studio. It's much smaller (and is a virtual studio) but the newscasters now get to sit down:

TV JOJ in Slovakia launched JOJ 24 on FTA last October. Their news open is basically all the cliches you can think of in a news intro: lens, globe, timer for speed, shades of red. But the lower thirds look alright though:

There's also a smaller set with the channel symbol, seen during Czech presidential election (but what's with the sqaure 24 on the headline?):

Very interesting. I wonder would this possibly be preparation for a more major refresh of Tagesschau as a whole? It’s been 9 years since the last rebrand, so a new look wouldn’t be out of the question. I have to say, the current presentation has held up remarkably well, it still looks (and sounds) gorgeous today.

I believe there are indeed plans for such a refresh in the somewhat-near future. Though I don’t think the changes to tagesschau24 are anything to do with this - these are more to do with making its output more flexible. The ARD wants to turn it into a proper rolling news channel, rather than the newswheel format it has traditionally had.

That "smaller set" is actually the main set of JOJ24. The other one is the studio of TV JOJ's Noviny, which is simulcasted on their news channel.

In my opinion the lower thirds are a little bit disappointing, template-like. The condensed font doesn't fit well with Noviny's graphics.

Hungary's HírTV (pro-government news channel) revamped some of its programmes earlier this year, including their morning and evening prime-time talk shows and newscasts. Although the new studio designs and on-screen graphics have some good elements, they widely differ from each other, creating a mess on the screen during the day.

There are rumours about the rebranding of Karc FM, a nationwide pro-gov talk radio to Hír FM, in order to better exploit the synergys between the two channels. They already have a common daily phone-in show, broadcasted live on both channels.

In Romania, documentary channel Cinetube was rebranded to Global News in early January (unrelated to the Canadian boomerang). This is how they start their newscasts:

Yeah, that's for Krimi Noviny, news that focuses on crime, which has been a thing since, and the intro is based off of JOJ's Noviny intro since 2015, which in my honest opinion is one of the best.

"Please stand by for further details, as we return you now to your regularly scheduled program. Hopefully."

A look at news intros from various ex-Soviet countries.
NOTE: Some intros might have changed over time as this video was uploaded last year.
