Also being used today for SNP news. This was one of their big 'selling points' when Sky News HD launched and then it vanished - glad its back.

Had Sky News on for a couple of minutes earlier... does Kimberley Leonard live at Sky Central? 9 out of 10 times I tune in, she's presenting. She seems to have become the new Tim Willcox!

I heard a bit of the breakfiller, too. It's been nearly two years, but I still can't quite warm to that music. It seems to me to be a very weak imitation of the exquisite 2005 coming up/headline bed. If anyone chez Sky is reading (I know some of you read here!) can we have that 2005 music back, please? IMO it was utterly magnificent and has never been bettered.

Still, those are just very minor things. I must say, it is a breath of fresh air to watch a news channel that is actually slick and coherent! Long may it continue.

Is this the 2010 Sky News HD type sidebar?

Sky News are live-streaming certain individual programmes on YouTube now, à la GB News:

www.youtube.com

Good idea IMO. It seems Breakfast, Ian King, News at Ten and the evening talk shows, plus certain other important news events all get their own live streams.

(As an aside, can Niall Paterson do the breakfast show all the time, please? I find him much easier to watch than the regular host. Ta.)

I always thought an hour of Breakfast was always available on their YouTube channel, or was it not streamed live?

Yes, the 7-8am hour of Breakfast has been live, along with Sophy Ridge on Sunday, Press Preview and the 9pm shows. I'm not sure if Sky News Today, Sarah-Jane Mee or Mark Austin has ever been put up on the channel?

It's no different to what GB News and TalkTV do on YouTube by adding live simulcasts of the stream as a live event per show.

Tuned in to BBC News at about 10:10 this morning to see how they were covering the SNP arrest - not at all, as it turned out. Nicky Campbell was holding a phone in discussion about Just Stop Oil. So I switched to Sky News… where Ian King and a guest were discussing a fintech summit. Not exactly ‘First for Breaking News’ now, is it? If Sky were smart and moved Ian King to a later slot (say, 4pm) they could really clean up in the mornings. It feels as if he is only in the 10am slot as that conveniently fills a gap.

Thats because Sky covered it for a whole 15 minutes at 9am, and again for 5 minutes at 9:30. I dont think it was breaking enough to disrupt Iain Kings show which is business based and will have arranged guests etc.

It's also much more of a 'lead/main' story than a 'developing' one - as I think I mentioned when Sturgeon's husband was arrested, the peculiarities of Scottish law (particularly that contempt starts following the arrest) mean there isn't really much that can be said beyond what is issued in police statements. Editors will not want correspondents or presenters speculating to fill time as it could cause legal issues.
