Speaking of the 77, iCable has returned their pay TV license from June 1st hence Cable News (as a pay TV channel) will cease to exist. Instead, viewers are expected to watch on channel 78 which is currently a mix of Cable News and Cable Finance simulcasts. The Cable News brand will be kept though and the intros introduced when channel 78 launched will most likely be kept.

Several things to note here:

[*]Top left: Cable News Channel, simulcasting the first few minutes of rolling news with Hoy Infotainment (Ch.78) and Cable Finance & Information Channel. Put the wrong breakoff card for a few seconds (intended for blocking footages usually related to sports rights), before showing the goodbye card and fading out the ticker.


[*]Top right: Cable Sports Channel, one of the crown jewels in the i-Cable package since the group's genesis. In decline since mid-2000s, they still aired a final tribute to their legacy, the Hong Kong athletes, before bowing out with a tearful goodbye.


[*]Bottom left: Cable Family Entertainment Channel, one of the few i-Cable channels available FTA, pre-HoyTV, in selected areas. A repeat of old filler content, before showing their ident one final time.
[*]Bottom right: Cable HD Ch.603, more commonly known as Cable Channel 18, focused on racing content. Launched a bespoke box set and app streaming package after the closure announcement.

I know it's a very Hong Kong thing to not want to change a longstanding news theme, but it looks like they've once again slowed down the animation on the intro to fit the pace of the theme, leading to a rather jittery start.

Not too dissimilar to the jittery nature of this short-lived intro for their 7pm bulletin.

Cable News/Hoy Infotainment has always used the same Cool Hand Luke-esque Gari Media news themes (News Series 2000, News Series 2000 Plus and Eyewitness News) since its inception in 1993. Take this example from 1997:

In the case of now defunct ATV, since it was renamed as such in 1982, it finally had a proper news theme; it was heavily rearranged three times (around 1988-1989, a dance version around the end of the 90s, and a new version in 2001), but the melody was still there. The theme was not used for a period of time in 2000 (instead using a fully new composition), but was brought back with the aforementioned new version one season later.

I've always liked how HKIBC (iCable / Hoy's English FTA channel) pretty much reuses a remixed version of an old Cable News theme too.

Another innovative change is the scenery of Jornal da Band. The news, which was already agile, became even more dynamic. A wide scenario, with two large LED panels of the latest generation, and a suspended light ring with the Band's brand, besides a higher number of cameras and a new crane.

One of the highlights is the 8-meter suspended ring of light with the broadcasting station brand, in addition to a higher number of cameras and a new crane. For Fernando Mitre, national director of Journalism of Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação, the new scenery should improve the program even more.

"The world does not stop changing, each time more quickly, and Jornal da Band accompanies these changes. We have a history of credibility built on respect for the viewer and commitment to the truth, practicing serious journalism always serving the public interest", says Mitre.
