Last night was there an announcement they'd be no regional news due to industrial action or was it just blamed on the tennis?

There was no announcement of any description, it just didn’t appear

But in this case it isn't too hard to guess why (aka the work to rule still being in progress.)

If she’d just kept walking normally, would have looked fine. It was the slight terror of someone saying in her ear ‘on the wide’ that prompted the trot.

There was no CA into the news, just straight to the headline sequence.
Most regions handed straight to Sophie - some more smoothly than others…

How technically feasible would that be these days? In days gone by it would not have been practicable but with the modern connectivity is feeding an iso of a Studio B camera to all regions and nations on a circuit other than the distribution feed viable?
I guess at a pinch London could have done the throw by cutting full frame to a wide shot of Sophie in B and introducing her out of vision, with the others being able to put it in their screens.

There was a brief cut to Sophie in the studio before the regional news started. She was sat at the desk on her phone. I was surprised to see her in position that early.

Suspect the calls on what was happening when happened quite late, and with B some distance from the newsroom suspect she’d probably been there from the usual time.
In fact, here’s the shot:

Strange that that would make it to air with the copyright caption as well

Yes, will have been the last element in the running order.
Presumably the fact London needed to opt out of the feed of B to go to air (hence it was cut up briefly on network) is something to do with the way the London ‘opt’ (as sustaining feed) now works.
