CITV is to close

They played an ITV2 Ident first, then a Scooby Doo trailer for ITV X played, then the CITV ident played and ITV2 is using the CITV logo.

The CITV branding lives on through the former GMTV2 block for now:

What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.

Yeah, Watch It! was the precursor to Children's ITV (ATV co-ordinated all that) and the actual Children's ITV strand from 1983 was effectively pre-recorded links wise, with programmes coming from all over the place.

The only reason it went live at all was because of the launch of the "Broom Cupboard" on the other side.

There used to be a good article on the history linked to on the old Watchedit site, which I've dug out for you from the Wayback Machine/Archive.org because I'm nice like that:

Don't have access to Freeview right now but is ITV3+1 now 0600 - 0400 on Freeview?

So for all the ballyhoo decrying the end of CITV, including tweets like this...

Great to see the CITV brand is still going, though I think they should of incorporated the name into the name of what is now ITVX Kids.

I bet this was a change of plan. If they always intended to keep the CITV brand, why wasn't it's logo updated last year like the other ITV channels?

Someone needs to tell STV that CITV is no longer on ITV1. I hear from a Scottish member of another forum that the continuity announcement into Love Your Garden said it was CITV.

I think the plan was of getting rid of the brand altogether as you've just imagined, just they changed that because of the "nostalgia wave"

Because regardless of the fact it isn't dead, it's not something they care about, at all.

Why go to the expense of rebranding something which is literally only being done to fulfil a contractual obligation associated with a legacy PSB license? Note that this isn't being promoted at all, anyone watching the CITV Channel yesterday or ITV1 last weekend would have no reason to think that it's anything other than gone. This is deliberate.

I think it was always the plan, it's just everyone assumed the brand was ending because the channel was. The only other option was to have children's shows with ITV2 branding.

They presumably didn't update the logo because it didn't need to be and it's not with doing for a few hours a day
