Suffice to say Al Dupres' tweet aged well...

twitter.com

They played out a Nigel Slater filler before getting back on course with the schedule - not before the duty announcer-director pointed towards the BBC Sport app to get the result (Ospreys won)

Didn't even have any radio commentary or reporters to fall back on.

Quite embarrassing all round, really.

The screen has already briefly turned black in the S4C broadcast of Dragons v. Scarlets and we only just started the team sheets. Might be an even longer afternoon for everyone at BBC Central Square.

Odd there was no radio coverage today, especially with it derbies. Ironically there is radio coverage of the second match (in English only), but I doubt if S4C would fall back on that if there is technical issues with this broadcast.

In fact, Radio Cymru especially has been reducing its sport coverage this season. Whilst in previous seasons, DAB or Radio Cymru 2 would cover Swansea and Cardiff matches in midweek, there has been nothing at all this year, even on Friday with a full set of fixtures.

Just had an apology from commentary for the lack of English commentary "due to technical issues". The S4C Clic app on my TV is playing the Welsh commentary on both feeds, but I think this a fault that happens more often than not.

At least the picture has been good throughout so far (touch wood).

And an apology from BBC Wales for earlier.

I think I saw it confirmed the Raducanu matches will be shown on Sky, but no legal way to watch any of the other matches in the UK. No catch-up of last night as expected as well.

Sky are splitting their coverage tonight. Brisbane centre court on Sky Sports Mix from 1:00 as scheduled. Auckland centre court on Main Event from 1:15 (joining in progress as start of play is 0:00) - Raducanu's match is last on, around 6:00, so there should be at least two other matches in full before that.

Still nothing from other courts or from Hong Kong.

Perhaps a few sighs of relief at Rodney Parade. After a touch and go start, the Dragons-Scarlets game on S4C made it safely through to the end...and a rare home win at that!

The Brewery Field can and does still host the occasional live game (i.e. when Penybont played in the Europa Conference League last summer) but going by all accounts today, it'll probably be a while until it gets to host URC rugby again.

Funnily enough, this season marks the 20th anniversary of the very brief life of the Celtic Warriors, but I digress.

I'e vgot to be honest, the really terrible conditions are making this a fun watch from a sporting and broadcasting perspective.

Not sure how much of a factor it is that this ground doesn't routinely host televised sport, with the match moved from Swansea.com Stadium to Bridgend's Brewery Field due to a clash with Swansea City.
That is a major factor. A lot of sports stadiums have permanent fibre connections so don't have to rely on satellite. You'll never get a Premier League match rained off for example as there's no satellite involved, it's all on dedicated fibre. I know all Premier League and Championship grounds have fibre, I'm not sure how far down the leagues it goes but it is a requirement for the higher leagues

The other alternative as a backup is to take some sort of IP based solution, either cellular based or on the hosts broadband. Problem with that is the bandwidth probably won't be good enough for sport and you're using cellular potentially fighting against the mobile phones of everyone in the stadium.

Far from earth shattering, but I note the Darts has been promoted to Sky Sports Main Event tonight and the game between West Ham and Brighton is now on SS Premier League only. Good call given how much Littler has been dominating the sports news headlines over the last week

What is the record for the PDC final on Sky Sports, surely Littler and the attention he has given the sport this week will get record audiences.
