A very serious story surrounding Virgin Media News at the moment.
Paul Byrne, who works as the Southern Correspondent for VM News, is suing the broadcaster after he was dismissed from his role after a report he carried out for VM News earlier this year was deemed inaccurate from one of the producers of VM News. Other media outlets had reported other facts that were deemed to be accurate about the tragic case involving a six year old boy in Waterford.
Mr Byrne had been suspended from work on full pay since the report was aired on VM News earlier this year. A meeting that was meant to decide his fate with VM News was meant to be held in Limerick tomorrow. However it has been delayed until next week as he is currently suffering from health issues.
A trade union rep from the NUJ was meant to go to the meeting with him in Limerick. He was refused by VM to attend the meeting as some other employee from the station who is also part of the NUJ was meant to go the meeting with him instead.
The full background to the case in this report below.

Paul's been with TV3/VMTV right from the start in 1998, hasn't he?
Needless to say, if all this results in his time with them ending, it'll be a very sad end indeed. He wouldn't be the first person to part with them on bad terms, mind...

Such an iconic broadcaster, I'm sure he'll do well in whatever awaits him next. End of an era.
Here's some clips from today's News at One. Liveline - which followed the News at One - also mentioned this at the start of their show.
