The former BBC racing commentator John Hanmer has died
www.bbc.co.uk

He commentated on multiple Grand National races and in 2001 he had to commentate on most of the race due to power problems elsewhere on the course:

Premier Sports branding has at least partially reappeared in the Republic of Ireland today on the two channels - appears to be full restoration of the Premier brand on Premier 1 and an odd mix of Viaplay and Premier branding on Premier 2.

The channel schedules, for now, are still the same as Viaplay in the U.K. but obviously they will diverge as time goes on and different rights are acquired and lost.

Edit: both channels now operating fully as Premier Sports again. For us in ROI it’s as if the last few weeks of Viaplay never happened.

Rather odd to see BBC Scotland's live Scottish Cup coverage last night was still using the old BBC Sport graphics package, despite the new graphics being around for months and used on Sportscene highlights flawlessly since the start of the season in August. The microphones used were up-to-date though with the new BBC logo.

After succeeding in taking global MLS rights, Apple is now going after rights to Eredivisie. The domestic rights currently belong to ESPN, which inherited them after the Disney/Fox; with the NOS handling highlights. Netflix (which is now endeavouring in live streaming) and Prime Video are also going after the rights.

Still with Apple, the talks with the NFL on getting the Sunday Ticket package starting next year have stalled. Reportedly Apple has been trying to convince the NFL to get not only the North American rights, but also globally, and change the situation with regards to domestic blackouts; the NFL is not willing to do so, given their very lucrative deals with the networks and ESPN. As a result, The Athletic is reporting Apple is trying to back out of talks, and The New York Times is also reporting Google is now in the frontline to get the rights, which could boost its already popular YouTube TV service and expand it beyond the United States.

This sounds like it could be interesting. It's about time we saw something new in football broadcasting, everyone does it the same way.

I'd assume there will also be matches for international broadcasters/BBC iPlayer on Saturday lunchtime as well. Maybe a good slot for a BBC Wales/S4C match too, with Wrexham a big name these days and Bristol City v. Swansea matches often being lunchtime matches historically.

The National League is to launch their own streaming service by the end of the year for matches not being broadcast by BT Sport. No more details, such as the standard of the broadcast or prices, yet announced apart from a soft launch date of December 10th.

Now confirmed that Viaplay will show the EPCR Challenge Cup rugby for the next two seasons.

Not sure if it's the best news that the two competitions will be on seperate broadcasters but good news that every match will be shown from both competitions, compared to the limited coverage the Challenge Cup got on BT Sport.

Also on the (now split away from Viaplay) Premier Sports in Ireland (same fixtures and times). At least according to the Sky EPG, the only source of knowledge about Premier Sports these days since Viaplay took over their website and social media channels and no replacements have been put in place.

Odd that the EPCR has said nothing about this though.

Edit: here’s a press release on the Bristol Bears website:

Very odd. It is not even mentioned on the fixtures list on the website like every other broadcaster of a represented nation. Even FloRugby is down for every fixture even though they are showing the matches in the USA. The website also lists all matches bar S4C's fixture as being on the EPCR website; I believe this was PPV last year and will be interesting to see if that continues alongside the Viaplay deal.

Re Premier Sports Ireland, I guess the Premier League fixtures on Boxing Day will be their next big Ireland-only exclusive so that will be worth keeping a look out for I guess. Not sure who benefits that the Ireland and UK broadcast are different but almost identical once again.
