French TV - News Discussion

Looking at my recording of F24 Francais, the 9am hour was a pre-record from the morning show, Parlons En was live from 1000-1045 with the 1030-45 segment from the smaller set for Face to Face, then 15 mins of filler until 1100. Live from 1100, then pre-recorded from noon repeated at noon.

FRANCE 24 NEW FORMULA : A MISSED FIRST MEETING

The launch of the new France 24 schedule had a false start yesterday morning. Despite management's communications plan, this new chapter of France 24 opened with rebroadcasts of newspapers on the English and Arabic channels, due to a strike by control technicians.

The CFTC has underlined, on several occasions, in CSE, the inadequacy between the editorial ambitions of the management of France 24 and the technical and human resources planned to implement them in several sectors (management, TV production, engineering , TV maintenance , dressing service, infographics, self-promotion, makeup, etc.)

For several months, Red Bee employees have been pointing out the deterioration of their working conditions and insufficient resources to implement the new France 24 schedule. These concerns, relayed by the CFTC (our press release of February 21), have not been addressed. unfortunately not heard. Our colleagues at Red Bee, some of whom have been with us since the launch of the channel, therefore began an unlimited strike action yesterday to carry out their demands.

Beyond this chaotic launch, the CFTC regrets that management has chosen to rush the deployment of the new grid, while the workflow has only just been stabilized and employees are awaiting answers about their working conditions. .

The CFTC asks management to hear the legitimate anger of journalists in VSD+ and to respect the organization presented during the CSE consultation (doc. of 08/11/2023):

Planning for 24 replacement shifts on Monday or Thursday throughout the year.

V The replacement day will be planned on a fixed basis on Monday or Thursday, depending on the teams, every other week.

If there is no need on the dedicated day the session will be devoted to preparation.

The CFTC provides its support to Red Bee technicians and renews its call to FMM management to strengthen the technical and human resources allocated to the deployment of the new program schedule.

VSD++ journalists cannot be the adjustment variable for planning reform. The CFTC asks management to respect the work organization presented in the CSE: “a fixedly planned replacement day, Monday or Thursday, every other week”.

The CFTC stands ready to act alone or as an inter-union organization to make employees' demands heard.

LCI had their own dedicated Super Tuesday coverage in studio with Thomas Misrachi earlier (with a special newsbar) but now they are simulcasting ABC News with French dubbing.

Azerty on lenodal has caps of LCI's on coverage.

The ABC simulcast looks like this:

But ABC News weren't only covering Super Tuesday, with this ending up on LCI as a result too:

I was watching the Nicky Haley announcement live on France 24 English. It puzzles me why they didn't use the live bug. When not in use it feels like a prerecorded segment, which it definitely was not. No signal of immediacy to the reporting.

(Some minues later the live bug + clock appeared just very briefly in another segment. Wonder if this has anything to do with the staffing issues there at the moment).

Daybreak has still yet to launch with Haxie Meyers-Belkin hosting a generic edition of the newly refreshed News at 6am Tuesday and Wednesday replayed until 9am.

Same on the French channel where A La Une was replaced by the same formula as the English channel from Tuesday onwards.

World View finally started at 6pm tonight as scheduled but the much-teased debate did not air at 7:10pm -- the 6pm hour being repeated at 7pm and now at 8pm replacing Primenews Paris -- and possibly further repeats this evening.

The daytime News intro differs slightly in the shade of blue compared to the one used for overnights.

Francois Picard just tweeted an explanation. Perhaps the first from someone from France 24 since Monday? There's not been any explanation on air about the disruption. Edit: Damien Coquet mentioned it at the end of his morning bulletins on Tuesday morning.

The 22/00 tranche (Actu 360 on the French channel and World Roundup on the English channel) has made it to air tonight! It started at 11pm on the English channel and 10:30pm on the French channel so still some weird timetabling niggles caused by the strike (similarly Paris Direct stuck around for an extra half hour this afternoon on the English channel).

So did Le Journal de l'Afrique for the first time since Monday at 9:30pm on the French channel for a 15 minute edition to squeeze in amongst the recorded magazines being shown (it's supposed to be at 9:40pm and last 20 minutes iirc).

F24 Francais overnight was reduced to an 11 minute bulletin with filler. Like Wednesday it was repeated at 6am.

Freelancer Caroline Loyer presented rather than one of the two presenters who cover that shift.

What role does Red Bee play in France 24? One would assume it would be like that with BBC (World) News such as transmitting it globally, regional variations and etc. but it seems very different here.

A La Une returned today on the French channel (at 6:30am rather than 6) along with Daybreak finally launching on the English side albeit at 7am (though it was rather light with it mostly being 15 minute news bulletins followed by magazines). Paris Direct on the English side was mostly live but once again was extended an extra half an hour to cover for Around the World until 3:30pm. Would love to know why this is necessary as it seems to have been a common occurrence for shows to be extended via a replay to cover the first half hour of the next one.
