My stomach churns whenever I see that drone footage. 

I can't stand heights, so I couldn't actually watch any of the reports until I heard that everyone had been rescued.  It was truly the stuff of my nightmares.

At least it looked as though the teachers were at either end of the cable car to hopefully stop any of the students falling out while it was swinging around.

That trail has been running for a while, but they seem to have stepped up the frequency of it lately - probably because the NC for viewers in the UK now has so many more gaps to fill.

I don’t know about the app; personally I always watch the channel via the BBC iPlayer app if using my phone. You get the regular broadcast stream with proper playback controls that way.

Slightly off-topic, but I remember a quote talking about the World Service that went along the lines of:
"If you want the world to hear what you have to say, speak to the BBC"

Does anyone remember who the quote is attributed to? It comes in my mind every now and again but it annoys me I cannot remember who it was from!

At this point you do start to wonder what the BBC is going to do next on any given day; the only clue being that graphics are bound to be (as said) huge and red!

The only nice bit of branding now is the chameleon sting.

I’ve no doubt it’d be possible. The grey background would be a nice evolution of the current look, and the centralised globe sits much better with the Chameleon branding.

But for some reason they want to keep the botched 2008 titles along with the various new individual programme titles that look like motion design tutorials for beginners.

Of the many changes associated with the merger, probably one of the most sensible, but you do you.

- 'Following the sun' is typical of international news channels and it makes sense to utilise the Washington teams for more than just a single 30-minute programme per day. The additional staffing costs in Washington are likely substantively less than previous overnight staffing costs from London - freeing up more money to be spent elsewhere.
- Showing extra commitment to the US market is a commercially sensible thing to do, with the US the most lucrative ad market and much of the BBC's syndication revenue coming from the US. Extra money raised this way means more money for the channel.
- From the perspective of UK viewers, where overnights are coming from doesn't really matter as viewership is so low. Plus, overnights on News 24 were historically fairly US-oriented anyway (variously featuring USA Direct, ABC World News, World News Today and repeats of World News America and World Business Report).

As is often the case, your view of what should be happening with the channel would be more expensive/require more cuts for little actual gain.

The Washington hours are some of the best hours on the merged channel. It's a lot better than what we had overnight which was a ton of random regional presenters covering from London with the same wheel of news.
