BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

Either way, sad for one of them to lose one hour of their shows. If they have shifted Lucy one hour earlier, everybody apart from Christian could have a three-hour shift.

I am finding the presentation style quite a hard watch. It doesn't feel 'British'. I keep thinking back to when I have been abroad on holiday and watching the BBC's World news. The presentation then never felt quite British, even though it was the BBC.

We're back to the history of cameras in courtrooms on the UK feed

What a drag this opt out has been… really rinse and repeat scenario… does feel very poor with no backup to cover other stories and come back when the statement is given…. Surely broadcasting any statement a minute behind live is fine isn’t it?

Lewis Vaughan Jones doing an admirable job holding things together despite absolutely nothing to talk about and having exhausted Mark Easton and Daniel Sandford's contributions.

For the 6th time we've now been told about the history of cameras in English courts.

And now for 5th time we're being told about the process for passing sentences in courts.

How about just grab some stories from the World feed's running order, air other UK packages, and fill time until the press conference starts? Surely it's better than never-ending narration on history of cameras and court procedures...

Looks okay but if it's stuck as a single camera broom cupboard that's how it will look to many, a huge downgrade.

Anyway, there are better issues to deal with than the opt-out studio right now.

Looks like Martine Croxall was correct! A broom cupboard.

Did the World stream cover the family's statement outside the court?

No it didn't. Showing business news at the moment regarding Tesla sales and now UBS takeover of Credit Suisse.

One would assume that the touchscreen in the main newsroom is just a temporary set up. I would've thought that once E is closed for a new set, that they'd take the opportunity to make something a bit more permanent and camera friendly. The fact that there's lights on tripods and quite poorly angled / lit shots would make me hope that this is just something that's a test-bed to see if it works longer term as a format.

I think some of the comments today are perhaps a little on the dramatic side. It's clear the team are struggling and (like many predicted) perhaps the timescales for rehearsals were not ideal. As always, I'm going to allow it a bit of time to bed in and see how things develop over the week. I'm sure some of the quirks (e.g. old stings, music cutting out unexpectedly) will be resolved as the new team get to grips with the new format. That may also explain why there's not many camera shots as of yet.

The new stings (online... app... etc), although simple, are very smart and elegant. I do wish the additional info was added back to the straps though. Especially useful if you are watching in a bar/reception etc when the sound is on mute.
