Just having a quick look through the archives and it's easy to forget that although the idents only lasted three days they did run stings beforehand around the promos, and in the 80s often better than the actual ident. I guess there was a practical reason they had to stick with the turntable.

And is this an unused ident - in a New Year variant:

So, some dates for programmes have been confirmed ahead of the release of the official listings in early December. For a change, Doctor Who will be on BBC1 Christmas Day but you can more or less predict the rest of the schedule. With ITV it's less certain apart from the soaps.
Maybe this thread can be a place for discussion of the 2023 schedules and past Christmas telly?
It'll soon be 30 years since the infamous ITV Xmas Day lineup of back to back films - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Field Of Dreams and DOA. Some have called it the worst schedule ever but I think it's alright. Christmas TV has always been about films for me.
Carol Vorderman has been asked to leave BBC Radio Wales “for breaching social media guidelines”.
Carol has hosted a weekend show at the BBC for 5 years.
It's coming to the time of year that some big events are coming. This coming week see's three prestigious events. Now, without Huw Edwards at the helm, it's likely some of these events will covered differently to before.
Remembrance Sunday is being covered by David Dimbleby, which I gather is his only continuing commitment to the BBC.
The State Opening of Parliament on Tuesday is being covered by 5 Live's Nicky Campbell.
However in a strange turn of events, The Lord Mayors Show on Saturday which presumably would also usually be covered by Huw, is being covered by Radio 2's Scott Mills. A rather strange choice if I may say so myself.
So it comes to be reckoned if the rota of who heads covering of important events is being shaken up quite radically at the BBC and that it isn't necessarily just going to be senior presenters and/or Kirsty Young heading these events anymore.
Watching ITV evening news with Charlene White made me wonder... what's the deal with the really rubbish indiscrete earpieces popping up all over the shop these days?
Take a look at the pic above, generic telex stainless steel earbud, white elbow, used on somebody with a darker skin tone... I mean, what's going on here? it looks like the poor lady is wearing a 1970s deaf aid.
I can remember how producers back in the day would go out of their way to frame shots to conceal the presence of the presenters earpieces - don't they care any more?
I know the high resolution of modern tv has made acoustic tube earpieces more difficult to conceal, but the new Sidekick IFBs and the other various wireless options are pretty discrete. It's not just ITV or Channel 4 News, the One Show as well - I spotted Jermaine Jenas with a piece of micropore tape stuck to his neck holding his in place the other day.
Seems like there are few shows moving away from acoustic tube to the SideKick to make them hard to spot in vision, but still can't understand now many generic buds seem to be in use by onscreen talent - any thoughts? and who generally decides which technology is used on screen on any particular show?

I don't think there's a My5 thread so here it is. The two services will be combined in the second half of next year. No word if they will use either brand or a new one. This makes a lot of sense and I'm surprised they haven't done this a lot sooner.

I was having a flick earlier through the videos in my YouTube subscription list, when I came across a video featuring Channel One, a channel I was only vaguely aware of (the local London cable channel, rather than the later Freeview channel).
At 5 minutes in is an introduction to This Is London:

The name of the newsreader (which sounds like Marie-Louise Creegor) rang a bell - is it perhaps the same person referred to by itsrobert on this TV Forum thread?

After The Horror Channel became Legend, the rebranding process seemed to have stopped. But according to a post on DS, the remaining channels - CBS Reality Reality Xtra and Horror Xtra - are rebranding on 22nd November. The names have not been revealed anywhere yet but I would imagine they might be adopting a single name format, like Legend did, rather than having a company name at the start.
Friends actor Matthew Perry has passed away. Sad end.
Possibly my favourite Friends character.
