It's just under a month to go until the coronation of King Charles III and the BBC has unveiled it's lineup for the weekend. Kirsty Young is fronting the main coverage and Coronation Concert on the 6th/7th May with Huw Edwards and Claire Balding commentating for different parts of the Coronation day.

Seeing this channel is still on Virgin made me wonder why it was removed from Sky and why it made the cut when the MTV channel purge occurred?

Do we have any info available on what technical infrastructure the gallery at Washington has, as when they updated the set I presume they updated the switchers etc too? Especially now Washington has more air time...

So this show which seems to have been over a year in the making finally launched last week. The show has proper TFI/Big Breakfast vibes and is the type of live show we all want to see on Telly.

I didn’t think it was some of Joe’s best work, who I usually find clips of his stand up and his other Channel 4 show to be brilliant. But this just felt like he was parodying what you’d expect Joe Lycett to be like if you’ve never seen watched anything with Joe Lycett.

They had a feature with TVs Clare Sweeney live in his local shop but there didn’t really seem any reason for her to be there, as they didn’t actively encourage people to visit for a prize or anything.

The second half of the show was much better with the fake spontaneity one hopes to get from this kind of live show, such as Katherine Ryan becoming trapped on a barge.

The other thing to mention is it comes from the new Digbeth loc studio which seems nice, but very narrow so I can see why MasterChef are going there. Not sure what else is could accommodate though.

Simultaneously one of the most and least surprising pieces of news for wrestling fans, but WWE has been sold to Endeavour, the parent company of UFC. WWE, which has been owned for 70 years by the McMahon family will now become part of a company worth 21 Billion Dollars.

Quote:Endeavor will have a 51 percent controlling interest, with the remaining 49 percent spread across WWE's shareholders...Comcast, Fox, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, Amazon, Endeavor and Formula One owner Liberty Media were among the potential buyers..."Together, we will be a $21-plus billion live sports and entertainment powerhouse with a collective fanbase of more than a billion people and an exciting growth opportunity," WWE executive chairman Vince McMahon said.

For those of you who follow the televisual athletic based soap operas of UFC and WWE, what are your thoughts?

Election coverage this year may potentially be a bit different to normal, especially on the BBC

As posted in the BBC Local Radio thread, there is a NUJ strike on Friday 5th May which will impact the English regions
www.nuj.org.uk

In addition Saturday 6th May is Coronation day which may mean some different faces involved in the election coverage, or in more prominent roles than usual. In particular I'm thinking of Huw Edwards, who presumably won't be involved in election coverage at all - therefore needing someone else to present the main election results programming?

As the single BBC News channel looms, some had hope for a change in the Lowe theme, which was assumed to stay afterwards. This made me think about themes that have the same logevity as the BBC's, if not longer. This is a thread to appreciate them:

Kicking start, a home example: TVB News. The beeps had been in use since the 70s, as the Morse Code for "News Today". Current iteration, in use since 1996, is a witness to multiple graphics, studio and editorial changes to the newsroom:

Any other examples?

I Ask a question over in Paul O'grady thread about how they reused American network promo from the 90s to help promote his chat show on Channel 4.  It got me looking at the Big budget US network seasonal promos the American Networks made.   The only one that has even come close to this sytle was LWT in the 1980s.     ITV never come close to something like this, they have tried 3 times and it never really cut the mustered, they had

* ITV1: The Brighter Side: 2010:
*  Summer in 2012: theident.gallery
*  2014 Where the entertiners live www.youtube.com
What is rather depression is nine years later and its same people!!

Why didn't ITV try and "recreate" some of these promos for them itself?   Yes there over the top, and chessy at time but there do pack a punch and grab your attension, No wonder Paul O'Grady show team tried it.    What seems to be lacking over this side of the water is the Branding and making you channel Stand out, and more importantly being PROUD of your channel. To be fair the BBC has the same trouble. It feels like ameican station are more proud of there networks and want to shout it to the roof tops. I would love to see the BBC and ITV shout making the branding be seen.

BBC Considers U-Turn On Closing BBC4 TV Channel – Deadline

Deadline are reporting that BBC Four might be saved from the axe. However, on the contrary, there are also reports that the newly relaunched BBC Three is not doing too well in ratings.

I'm really glad to see BBC Four saved from the axe, however I feel that again, when a service is closed on the BBC, each channel feels like a "bridge", and when BBC Three closed down on television, it did leave the BBC a very large gaping hole to where the audiences would inevitably go to other broadcasters.

I can see the same happening for CBBC, audiences choosing not to go to iPlayer but instead Disney+, Netflix, etc. but keeping BBC Four is at least showing that the BBC can afford to keep an arts and archive programming channel alive... even if it means they have to sacrifice a 7-14 year old demo at the BBC.
